hmmm...that's the thing...even getting webmasters to design tableless designs so web pages load faster has been a challenge. So many sites are still using old-style HTML, so I don't see how trying to get developers to speed up their sites is going to pan out.

Google will be leading the way, I'm sure. It should be interesting to see what the future holds for the Internet, that's for sure.

As a developer, I find that I'm constantly tweaking this query or that code snippet to get every ounce of performance I can out of a web site or application. I've come to the conclusion however, that I, like many, am focusing on the wrong things. I recently listened to Steve Souders (formerly of Yahoo, now works for Google) and there's a lot more that can be done on the front end. Everyone should see him speak at some point, as well as read his books (High Performance Web Sites and Even Faster Web Sites). If we could just get web developers to follow his most basic suggestions, the web would probably speed up by a factor of 10. Then we could look at protocols, etc to speed it up even more.

Just my two cents.
