Forum Status
Just wanted to give everyone who follows the Get Free Web Designs blog a status update for the community forum coming to GFWD.
The plan was to launch our forum sometime today (Friday), which is still the plan, however there might be a slight delay, not because the forum isn’t ready, but because I’m in the process of upgrading the server for our hosting to accommodate the expected spike in server load and traffic from having a forum on the site.
Our upstream provider tells me this upgrade should be done within the next 24-72 hours, so sometime between now and over the weekend is what I’ve been told.
So to confirm, the forum is complete and ready to run, we’re just waiting for our server upgrade to be completed before it goes live.
Thank you everyone (designers and users) again for all your continued support of Get Free Web Designs. Bakies for everyone

Great news, Sean! Looking forward to the forum and helping this community grow.
all the best,
Karen
As always, thank you for your continued support Karen. It’s nice having you be apart of the magic that is GFWD
This is great!
Indeed, it should be a good thing.
But we want the forum now! :p
Hehe. Understood.
We’ve waited 10 months to add a forum to Get Free Web Designs, so another couple of days isn’t going to be a big deal.
Have a
while you wait LOL
Ooh! I can’t wait! You should hold a design competition to really spice this place up. I think if this site was just a little bit more flashy like ThemeForest or some of the other giants in this category.
Also, a landing page for each design and comments on the design (like ThemeForest) would be AWESOME (they could just be auto-created Forum threads that are then browsable in the Forum via Designs > Discussion > DesignName for example.)
Another way to do it, that I have seen done, is treating each submission as a special kind of forum thread (example: http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?p=95017 )
Thank you Alec for all your excitement and support.
For now our design is going to stay how it is because we really like it and the site is still less the a year old. Maybe in the future we will update the design to be a bit more flashy, but for now it’s serving our needs pretty nicely.
As for new features, thank you for your suggestions. Aaron and I already have a lot in the works on our development server for GFWD, but we are releasing new features a little at a time to keep things fresh.
Once the forum is up and running on the live site, some other cool things will follow shortly. Just keep an eye on our blog to find out more as time permits.
So, the weekend is over and no news. Any updates?
Good grief Daniel
Yes the weekend is now over. Here is a status update for you and others:
Aaron is away on business and I’m just starting my morning (Monday).
Basically I’ll be spending the day getting things ready to move from our development server over to our live server.
We do things properly here on GFWD. We test, double test and test again before we roll something out.
As I always do here on the GFWD blog, once things are up on the live site, I will post another message with all the details about forum rules and guidelines. It’s already in draft mode.
I also need to notify the people who will be moderators, etc. and get them up to speed before public launch of the forum. Lots of little details to get wrapped up for this to be done correctly.
Hopefully that was a good enough status report for you. Now I’m going to have some breakfast since I replied to this first before even having something to eat this morning
The return of the bakie! YES!!
Any update to this?
Hi Greg, check out this post about moderators. The short answer is we’re doing some testing with a couple moderators to make sure permissions and other functions are working for them before we roll it out publicly. We do a lot of testing to make sure things are good before rolling them out. Bugs and issues are not fun to fix in a live environment. I’ll do a new post now mentioning this. Hang in, it’s coming.
