A client of mine just sent me a Word document with apparently nothing in it. In fact it is filled with hidden keywords which have been reduced in size so as to appear invisible. He said a friend of his had put this on his site and shot to the top of the first page in Google, and of course he asked me to copy and paste the text onto his site. His friend also said that several other people he knows have had the same thing on their sites for years.

I think that if it was that easy, everyone would be doing it. I know that white text on white background will get you banned. I replied that I would advise against doing this as he could get banned by Google. Have any of you come across this and would you advise against it?

Being involved with many things "Google" the past 8+ years, I would highly advise against this method of SEO.

Just as you pointed out, it will get you banned by Google. It might take a little while for the Google Bot to catch on to every site doing it, but once you are caught, into the Google blackhole you go and it almost takes an act of God to get out of that blackhole once banned, especially for something like this.

If you need some SEO help for your client, contact me off forum and I'd be glad to help. People who know me are aware of how well I can get people indexed with Google (and other search engines) and not by using blackhat or unethical methods as your client seems to want you doing.

Don't try to be sneaky, I'm sure Google knows every sly way and has ameasures to deal with it… I did exactly what you're talking about on one of my sites… and Google penalised me BIG time. I'd recommend that you don't do it. Good content with a reasonable amount of keywords is by far the easiest and the best SEO technique.
