Have many of you done work with someone overseas? I am just curious as to how you made the payment. Did you use PayPal, personal check, bank check, money order…etc. Looking for safe easy ways to do this. Thanks.

I've accepted PayPal and International Money Orders from people outside the US.
Do be careful with accepting PayPal from people outside the US though as the protection rules are much different on charge backs verses here in the US. Check with PayPal to be sure on the exact rules as they always seem to be changing.

Thank you Sean. I was curious, as I hired an illustrator from Switzerland to do some work for me. I wanted to pay him, but keep it as easy as possible.

No problem NickyD. PayPal is pretty nice and easy.
Maybe check with the illustrator and ask them their preferred method of payment.

Yep, I did….but he did not have PayPal. So, I was trying to figure out if sending a money order was the next best move. Thanks for the input.

Sounds like International Money Order is your best bet. You can get them at the Post Office (USPS).

I'm outside the US and I regularly get payments via PayPal. Works great for me since it can be transferred directly into my bank account too.

Hi, international money orders – if issued in US Dollars – may incur huge fees if cashing them in Switzerland. Your illustrator should better check this beforehand. If the money order is issued in Swiss currency it most likely costs a lot of fees on your end. Maybe the best solution would be if the illustrator registers with paypal. It is the most convenient way for international payments if you are the buyer.
As seller I would never use paypal for international deals with digital cameras and such due to the chargeback risks … but for this kind of service I think it is the best solution. Good luck …
